How I Saved My Fibro with My Shakeo

Hi! If you’ve found this post, you are probably wondering what Fibromyalgia is, and then you’re going to wonder what Shakeology is, or you already are? So, let’s start there.

Fibromyalgia is a complex, chronic pain disorder. fibromyalgia-cycleIt involves multiple systems with the primary symptoms being pain, sleep problems, and irritable bowel syndrome. The root of these symptoms seem to lie in the nutritional issues and sleep issues. Other symptoms include irritable bladder, migraines, restless legs syndrome, impaired memory and concentration, skin sensitivities and rashes, dry eyes and mouth, anxiety, depression, ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision problems, Raynaud’s Syndrome, neurological symptoms, and impaired coordination.

IMG_2538Shakeology is a nutritional supplement that has globally sourced superfood ingredients like Proteins and Fiber that help reduce hunger and food cravings. Antioxidants, Phytonutrients, Vitamins, and Minerals help fight free radical damage and help support a healthy immune system. Adaptogen Herbs help the body adapt and respond to the effects of stress. Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Digestive Enzymes to help nutrient absorption and support regularity and healthy digestion.

Now that you have that knowledge, let me tell you how I believe the nutritional difference with Shakeology helped my Fibro…

I’ve had Fibromyalgia most of my life. I will be 45 years old next month. I’ve had symptoms since my tween years and was diagnosed in my mid 20s. I went through almost every test and recommendation there is… nerve tests (hurt like He!!), bone scans, CT scans, labs, physical therapy, and the list goes on. After I was diagnosed I learned everything I could about Fibro, neuro health, GI health, alternative health treatment options, etc.

Initially, I started with the traditional antidepressant meds to help with sleep and achiness. I was on stomach meds for IBS, and muscle relaxers for sleep. In the beginning, I had anti-inflammatory drugs and narcotics, but quickly learned they didn’t help, and didn’t take them. Actually, none of the pills helped… Over time I learned that nutrition and exercise are key to keeping Fibromyalgia under control!

Nothing is a substitute for proper nutrition and toned muscles to support the body’s proper function. With Fibromyalgia, my muscles hurt every day, and some days worse than others. I seem to stiffen up for no good reason, but I can say I do feel 100% better when I am toned and fit and nourished. I know many of my triggers now, so that helps too.

Learning how nutrition and alternative therapies help my Fibro has been the only way I’ve gotten better. I get massage therapy regularly and have for many years, I swear by it. I adore my massage therapist, she makes my world better. Love you, Julia (I know you’re reading this). 😉

I don’t let Fibro stop me, but I live with significant pain everyday. I’ve done a lot of things in the past year to help my health and wellness. Adding Shakeology has been one of them. I truly believe it has helped me replace the nutrition I was lacking.

I avoid foods that are not good for Fibro (or autoimmune disease, bowel dysfunction, mental health issues, the list goes on) like gluten, dairy, soy, and other inflammatory foods. I’ll be sharing more on digestive health soon, so stay tuned.

Unknowingly, I was eating foods that I wasn’t tolerating most of my life. This has caused malabsorption issues from ‘leaky gut’ damage. This chronic malabsorption lead to improper absorption of nutrients that are essential for long term wellness, daily functioning and immune health. I’ve done a lot of research and even taken a class on Holistic Nutrition. Everything I’ve learned tells me we all need the immune benefits of superfoods and adaptogenic herbs, and the digestive health benefits of the pre/probiotics and digestive enzymes. The multivitamins, amino acids, phytonutrients and multiple protein sources benefit our immune health, gastrointestinal health, neurological functioning, and so much more.

IMG_3204Shakeology is part of my new dietary regime, along with some other natural supplements and remedies. I do not take Flexeril to sleep for the first time in almost a decade. I ‘go’ every day now, I was chronically constipated for decades. If I eat wrong, I know it, but I can still stay regular with my Shakeology (tmi, but it’s real and it matters). My Irritable Bowel Symptoms are 90% better (100% if I’d avoid those foods I don’t tolerate, but I am human).

I believe the nutrition in Shakeology supplements the nutrition that I am not able to ingest daily. There is no way to eat all of the nutrients that are in Shakeology every day. I also take a few additional high dose vitamins too, Vitamin D, B-complex and probiotics.

I totally feel better when I have Shakeology. More specifically, my energy level is better and I don’t have food cravings. The bonus is that I get a chocolate milkshake every single day! I went without twice in the past few months when I was away, and I didn’t feel as good. I was tired, achy, slower, foggier. I know travel does that, but I know my Shakeology helps me with that too.

What I get from Shakeology is unique. I have every reason to continue, and I haven’t found a single reason in all the research I do to think Shakeology is anything but the real deal.

I use the vegan formulas because I avoid dairy and the protein in the regular formula is whey protein, which is from cows. I do believe the whey in Shakeology is good quality whey. Not all businesses are concerned with the sourcing and quality of their ingredients, Beachbody certainly is. If you watch any videos about Darin Olien and you will understand.

I hope this is what you were looking for if you came looking for info about Fibromyalgia and/or Shakeology. I know A LOT about Fibro. I’m learning just as much about Holistic Nutrition. Shakeology FITS A NEED for me, it fulfills all my requirements and meets my expectations. And, trust me, there’s nothing easy about meeting my expectations or my needs either, ask my husband. 😉

If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them. Comment or email me. If you want to order Shakeology, click here.

Shakeology testimonial: “A friend just recently gave me a bag and I started drinking it on Saturday. I went all day without being hungry, worked all day in the yard/garden digging, kneeling, bending and lifting and I am so impressed with the amount of energy I had. Did the same thing on Sunday. I have Fibromyalgia and usually this level of activity will slam me a day or two after and all I can do is sleep BUT I am here to tell you that I actually had trouble sleeping Sunday night and I don’t have the pain (no pain) that always follows after this level of activity!!!!!!”

I agree that diet plays A LOT in our physical and mental wellbeing. “Let thy medicine be thy food and thy food be thy medicine,” right?

I really feel like the Shakeo is an awesome way to meet nutritional needs in place of a meal. I have one for breakfast in the morning and I feel great all day. I feel that since your body is getting what it needs it doesn’t crave other things. It’s hard, too, to get in a truly balanced diet even if you eat very clean, so this is like a sneaky head start to the day.

I hope you are Enjoying the Journey! -Kp 🙂

  1. I can give testimony to the claims KT has made in this blog! Shakeology does help with many of the Fibro symptoms. I have more energy and less pain. I don’t crave sweets and snacks all the time. And I rarely feel the need for an after-work nap like I use to. I have been working hard at becoming “healthy” for about 2 years now since I finally gave in to a diagnosis of Fibro. Many alternative treatments have helped. But I do believe Shakeology has been the icing on the cake!
