  1. Re your Concomitant allergies post from 3/15/12:

I’ve been doing some research on this (my boy is allergic to 6 of the top 8, plus canola oil and a few others). I wanted it to be true. But I can find no research on it. Nothing, not a single journal article or grant or anything. The list you put up seems to have originally come from a book that came out in 1991 (which I just bought on Amazon, used because it’s not in print by any major publisher right now)…but it’s not duplicated on any website I’d actually trust (NIAID, for example). The sites that have the list (not yours, obviously, and not some other bloggers’ sites) seem to be milking it for profit, offering unproven “therapies” and “medications” that are not accepted by medical science.

That makes me angry – if there is something really there, it should be scientifically proven and generally accepted, but it’s not. If there’s nothing there, perhaps we should be looking elsewhere for our kids’ bad reactions.

I’m considering making a blog just to debunk some of these allergy con artists but I don’t know if I have the energy…

Anyway, wanted you to know. Please let me know if you find I’m wrong – I’d love to be wrong!!

    1. Dan, I agree that there is little evidence to support the concomitant food allergy theory. My thought is that every little bit helps. It’s not too hard to avoid some foods certain times of the year, is it helpful? Maybe, maybe not, but worth a try. Different remedies work for different people.
My family is lucky enough to have friends that are allergy experts and I have gains much of my knowledge through their help and expertise.
I hope you are able to find the help you need for your son. Just a few thoughts…. Do you practice the environmental allergy precautions I mentioned in my other allergy post? Have you considered or are you doing allergy shots? They really can be helpful. I know plenty of people that have tested negative or are much less sensitive to certain allergens after allergy shots. If you have found meds are not helpful, I wonder if you’ve tried Xyzal? I find that many people that don’t have relief with Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, nose sprays, etc. find Xyzal helpful.
I appreciate your opinion. Good luck!
