This blog is dedicated to all my friends and relatives that have my number and have ever used it to call for advice, contributing greatly to this blog in so many ways. Love ya!
Hi, I’m Katie! Nice to meet you!
Thanks for checking out my website.
I’ve been in the field of maternal/child health helping families for over 25 years. I spent the first 5 years of my nursing career bringing newborns into the world and it was AMAZING to witness so many miracles! I moved on from deliveries to primary care pediatrics due to my own health journey. It was so rewarding to watch the children I helped bring into the world grow and thrive. After a decade in primary care, I knew graduate school was the next step. I earned a Master’s of Nursing in Child Health from SUNY @ Stony Brook, and quickly combined it with a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Mental Health from Arizona State University.
Over the past decade, my journey has since taken me on a more holistic path of wellness, learning and practicing more holistic health care options. I believe that the body is divinely created, and we have the amazing ability to maintain our health with holistic practices.
I believe we have gotten away from the safer, more natural and holistic way to care for ourselves and our families. I believe that wellness encompasses all kinds of therapies, some traditional, some nutritional, some alternative. Although, I have my own opinions on what’s alternative vs. traditional.
One of the MOST IMPORTANT things in my world is being a Mom.
My boy is 20 years old and the smartest, most creative, guitar playing guy I know, he is also the biggest challenge God has ever presented to me. We learned years of assumed ADHD was really undiagnosed health issues like Mold Toxicity and congenital Lyme Disease and vaccine toxins. The years helping Josh taught me that there is so much more to learn than we are taught in school. If you’ve read my blog at all, you know this part of my journey is always going to be very interesting.
My girl is a comical & creative 16 year old that beats to her own drum. She loves drawing, writing, horses, her puppy and kitty, being outside, and tinkering with just about anything she can figure out. I do have to admit, my girl’s creativity, humility and compassion melt my heart. She helps keep my crazy sane.
WHY THE SHIFT?
After 25 years in maternal/child/family health, I knew I needed to share more, and that’s how this blog started. I was hoping to answer the everyday questions that all parents ask… Why doesn’t my child go to sleep at night? What can I do if my child is constipated? Is It Really ADHD? And, Who doesn’t need to be a Mean Mom sometimes… but it’s ok, the rest of us meanies are right here with ya!
I’ve struggled with Fibromyalgia for over 30 years, and I’ve learned how to feel better through holistic nutrition. I’ve controlled chronic health issues like irritable bowel symptoms, asthma, migraines, insomnia, etc., and I have more energy than I ever thought possible for someone with a Chronic Fatigue condition!
I share info about practicing wellness as a family through nutrition and good lifestyle habits. After taking my first holistic nutrition class, I was hooked and and over the years have learned more about nutrition, gut health, immune health, and how it all connects to our overall health and wellness.
I believe that nutrition is the key to wellness. The impact that food has played in my life has been profound and fuels why I feel so passionately about sharing nutritional health with others. Learning how food choices have impacted my children has blown my mind and hurts my heart.
I’ve done lots of research to educate myself and make the choices that I make. I make them ALL for a reason. I share the products that I’ve researched and chosen for my family in My Family’s Trusty Secrets and also write specifically about the foods and products we avoid too.
Learning how the world around us impacts our health and wellness makes the journey well and happy, or sick and sad… we all get a choice. What will you choose?
I learn and grow everyday from this wonderful journey called life. I am trying to take the time to appreciate and acknowledge the wonderful gift of my family and the beauty of this amazing world. I know my children teach me as much as I teach them, but only if I take the time to listen. I’m still learning to be a better listener. Aren’t we all?
Katie, I love this idea! You’re awesome!

A friend shared your blog with me, and I’m so glad she did! I would really like to see some information on how to approach deciding whether or not vaccination is the route one wants to take with their child. I am currently struggling with this issue for my second even though I had my first child vaccinated. Also, I will be breastfeeding for at least the first year of my child’s life just like I did for my first.

Hi Megan! I’m glad you are enjoying my blog! I wrote a grad paper on vaccines and the MMR vaccine. A lot of issues have come to light since my research and I decided to remove my article from my blog. I do recommend doing more of your own research. I am currently doing more research about vaccines myself. If I had it to do all over again, there are a few I might avoid. I do not think infants need Hep B unless they are in a high risk situation. I do think there are some childhood vaccines that we do need. In my recent reading, it is most important for your child’s immune system to be completely well during vaccination. A compromised immune system (like one fighting off a cold) has to work harder to help build antibodies, and this process may not be as effective as we need it to be. I know my answer is as clear as mud. Sorry. As I read more about holistic wellness, vaccines are a topic that concern me. I wholeheartedly used to believe in them, I’m more skeptical than I used to be. Thanks for reaching out. I’d love to know about any of the information you find. Please share if you can.
Enjoy the Journey! 🙂
