This blog is dedicated to all my friends and relatives that have my number and have ever used it to call for advice, contributing greatly to this blog in so many ways. Love ya!
I first started this blog because I thought it would be fun to share the helpful hints of parenthood and children’s health from the perspective of a mom that is also a pediatric nurse practitioner.
In recent years, my journey has since taken me on a more holistic path of wellness. I believe we have gotten away from the safer, more natural and holistic way to care for ourselves and our families. I believe that wellness encompasses all kinds of therapies, some traditional, some nutritional, some alternative. Although, I have my own opinions on what’s alternative vs. traditional.
One of the MOST IMPORTANT things in my world is being a Mom. I am blessed with two adorable, smart, happy, curious, witty and interesting children. They are my world. ❤
My son is 14 years old and the smartest, most creative, guitar playing kid I know, and also the biggest challenge God has ever presented to me. He recently had that teenage boy growth spurt where he ended taller than his momma, sad day when I realized he went from 6 pounds to bigger than me. Our next adventure is homeschooling… stay tuned. If you’ve read my blog at all, you know this part of the journey is going to be interesting. (Yea, that didn’t last long… he needed a bigger pond to swim in.) 😉
My daughter is a sweet, helpful, creative 10 year old that beats to her own drum. She loves dragons, horses, her puppy and kitties, being outside and tinkering. Recently, she’s writing her own comics. Just a few days ago, she collected a fertile chicken egg from a friend. Guess who’s dad had an incubator for her in about 24 hours, stay tuned for that update. And, somehow, in less than 3 days we have 3 goldfish from 2 different sources. (2 week update – fish are dead, egg never hatched, and NOW we have 2 rescued baby turtles.) Never a dull moment around here. I do have to admit, my girl’s creativity, humility and compassion melt my heart. She keeps my crazy sane. 🙂
After 20 years in maternal/child/family health, I have found that there are so many unknowns… I’m hoping to answer the everyday questions that all parents ask… Why doesn’t my child go to sleep at night? What can I do if my child is constipated? At what point should I medicate a fever? How can I find out if my child has ADHD? And, Who doesn’t need a little breastfeeding support?
I share info about practicing wellness as a family through nutrition and good lifestyle habits. I have been learning about nutrition and wellness for many years because of my Fibromyalgia, and recently took a Holistic Nutrition class. I do consulting as a Wellness Coach. I believe that nutrition is the key to wellness. The impact that food has played in my life has been profound and fuels why I feel so passionately about sharing nutritional health with others. Learning how food choices have impacted my children has blow my mind and hurts my heart. Children’s mental health is another one of my passions.
Learning how the world around us impacts our health and wellness makes the journey well and happy, or sick and sad… we all get a choice. What will you choose? I’ve done lots of research to educate myself and make the choices that I make. I make them ALL for a reason. I share the products that I’ve researched and chosen for my family in My Family’s Trusty Secrets and also write specifically about the foods and products we avoid too.
Knowledge is power. Be Educated. You Choose. Choose wellness. If you need help, please reach out and ask me, that’s what I do. I share wellness! 🙂
This journey is difficult, and we all get by with a little help from our friends. Let’s ALL be friends. As parents, this journey is the longest, most tiresome, most difficult, most rewarding, most loving, all around BEST journey we could take. We will have to be a Mean Mom sometimes, and that’s ok, the rest of us meanies are right here with ya.
I learn and grow everyday from this wonderful journey called life trying to take the time to appreciate and acknowledge the wonderful gift of children. I know my children teach me as much as I teach them, but only if I take the time to listen. I’m still learning to be a better listener. 😉
Life is busy, take the time to listen, and always, always Enjoy the Journey! 😉
